I Set up my own WordPress Blog!
Like many I.T. people, I’m a tinkerer. I think you kind of have to be in order to stay on top of all the millions of possible directions that you or your organization will need to go in. So, when I saw that WordPress could be installed and used on your own servers instead of thiers, I was truly interested! Not for me, but for work. I’ve been tasked (forever) with updating the company Intranet and although there are tons of spiffy tools online that allow you to do stuff and host it in the “cloud” I happen to be mistrustful of said cloud!!!!
Our organization really can’t afford to give away control over any of our internal dish, drama or doings to anyone. And I don’t suggest that any serious business do that no matter how trustful you feel at the time. If you put it out there, it’s out there and you can’t get it back if you no longer want it out there.
So, I’m experimenting on my site with this new blogging capability to see how far I can extend it in my own world of work. If you are looking for a blogging platform, but don’t want ot sell you soul to Google’s blogger…get WordPress and host it yourself.
It’s free!
