Step Four- Consider your Design
Well, by now you’ve got something…but it ain’t pretty! It’s pretty plain. Now is the time to find a design. Websites can be hand coded in a variety of languages with a plethora of tools, but I promised you that you would be up in a couple of hours so we aren’t even going to entertain HTML editing here. Because WordPress is so popular and open source, there are thousands of people itching to share their WordPress skills with the world…many for free. That means that you have tens of thousands of themes, plugins and extras being developed everyday to help you make your site super spiffy.
Feel free to check out wordpress.org for an excellent education in Wordress if you want to go deeper….but not now! We are on a deadline, here.Â
We are going to use an existing theme to serve as the basis of your website. Many themes can be found from your WordPress Dashboard (which we’ll get to shortly), but many more can be found online at various websites if you feel comfortable with the idea of downloading files from one site and FTPing them to your website. Don’t worry…I’ll show you how it’s done.
Log into your WordPress Dashboard. Point your browser to www.whoyouareonline.com You should d be looking at a lovely default webpage. Somewhere on the right hand side of that page is a login link. Click it!!!
When you use WordPress to run your website, you log into a console that lets you add, edit and update content right online. This removes the need for you to purchase and learn webpage editing software. It works like a word processor and everything is point and click. Have a look around at how it is organized.
Find your new theme. This is the only design work that you need to do. Search for a good design and use it! Ta Da…how easy is that. On the Left navigation menu, under Appearance, click Themes. On the themes page, click Add New.   The search page provided here offers a useful filter section that you can narrow down your search by some specifics if you are interested. Or you can search by terms. If you are a restaurateur you could put food in the search box and see what shows up. If you’ve already got logos and materials, you can narrow it down to colors that match. I just browse’em all to be honest.
You can browse through them before picking one to install. If you don’t find anything that suites you here, check out some of these sites for other options.
